Annie "Ann" Kovar Macha

Annie “Ann” Kovar Macha, age 88 of Hungerford passed away Monday, January 19, 2015 in a Wharton hospital following a short illness. She was born on September 20, 1926 in Tavener, the daughter of the Peter Kovar and Veronica Bohacek Kovar. Ann was raised in the Tavener area and graduated from East Bernard High School in 1944. Ann was married to Leroy Macha on June 11, 1947 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard. They ran Leroy Macha's Groceries, Meats & Lockers until 1974 when Leroy was elected Commissioner for Wharton County Precinct 2. She enjoyed traveling, gambling, loved football games, volunteer work at Gulf Coast Medical Center, and playing bridge. She also loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Leroy Macha; her son, Larry Macha; sister, Lena Kovar Brandl; brothers, Frank Kovar, John Kovar, Joe Kovar and Louis Kovar. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 23, 2015 from 6 pm till 9 pm at Wharton Funeral Home with a Rosary recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 10 am at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hungerford with Father Charles Dwomoh officiating. Interment to follow the Mass at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brandon Brown, Bret Macha, Ross Macha, Dale Sikora, Billy Griffith, and Bobby Cowan. Honorary pallbearers are Del Marek, J.D. Kovar, Tony Brown, Raymond Rabius, Larry Bubela and Gerald Lowery. Ann is survived by her daughter Judy Ann Macha Brown of Wharton, daughter in law Margaret Macha of Bellville, son, Gene Macha and wife Nancy of Wharton; grandchildren Ross Macha and wife Jami, Sarah Macha, Bret Macha, Lauren Macha, Brandon Brown and wife Ember, great grandchildren Brooke Brown, Andy Brown, Jack Macha and Grace Macha. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Catholic Church, Hungerford or a charity of your choice. Funeral services are under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Home.
