James Everett Bruce

James Everett Bruce, age 67 of Wharton, Tx passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2015 surrounded by his family following a chronic illness. He was born on July 13, 1947, in Bay City, Tx, the son of the late James and Ruth Scott Bruce. James graduated from Sweeny High School in 1966. James joined the United States Army and served his country honorably in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division. He later worked as a supervisor for AT&T for over 35 years until his retirement in 2009. James was joined in marriage to Wanda Kurtz on November 1, 1968, at Holy Family Catholic Church. In his spare time, James enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and travel. A Funeral Mass was held on Friday, March 6, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, in Wharton, with Father Bob Knippenburg officiating. Interment immediately followed at Evergreen Memorial Park, also in Wharton. Serving as pallbearers were David Bradbury, Michael Gorman, John Matcek, Dean Mullen, Donny Williams, and Larry Winkelmann. James is survived by his wife Wanda Kurtz Bruce; his daughters, Kristina Bruce-Franchi and her husband Fausto Franchi, and grandsons Giacomo and Pietro of Gerenzano, Italy and Melissa Misplay and her husband Mark, and granddaughters Madeline and Mckinley of New Albany, Ohio; sister, Sherry Hughes and her husband Gary of Sweeny, Texas; brothers, Ernest Richardson and his wife Pam of Brazoria, Texas and Sheldon Perry and his wife Sherry of Whitehouse, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Funeral services are under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Home.
