Mrs. Janie Mae Wendel Prather, 85, of Bay City died Monday, March 16, 2015, in Bay City, TX. She was born on February 16, 1930, in Wharton, TX, a daughter of E.J. and Francis Freid Wendel. Mrs. Prather was raised in Wharton, and was a resident of Newgulf, TX. She graduated from Wharton High School. Janie worked as a teacher’s aide with the Boling ISD. She enjoyed bowling, dancing, playing softball, gardening, arts and crafts and anything with kids, especially her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Elton James Prather and sister Josephine Brandt. Serving, as pallbearers will be Payton Prather, Jody Rolf, Dick Carter, Angelo Rosselli, Bill Jahnsen, and Bill Luder. Visitation will be held Saturday, March 21, at Wharton Funeral Home from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, March 22, at 2:00 p.m. at Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Dubroc officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Survivors include her daughter Sue Jahnsen and husband Bill of Van Vleck; son Brian Prather of El Campo; granddaughter Tiffany Waits and husband Donny of Magnolia; grandson James Payton Prather of Kyle; and great-grandchildren Walt Parker Waits and Andi Rhea Waits.
