Rogelio “Roque” Montez, age 77, of Wharton, died Sunday, April 5, 2015 in a Wharton hospital following a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born on December 2, 1937, in Raymondville, Texas, a son of the late Jesus and Eloisa Cisnernos Montes. Roque was a longtime resident of Wharton. He worked for Wharton County Junior College for over 20 years in the Custodial Department, retiring in 2000. Roque enjoyed fishing, listening to music, being with friends and family and being a prankster. In addition to his parents, his sister, Eduvina Huerta and brother, Sam Flores preceded him in death. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 8th at Wharton Funeral Home after 6 pm. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, April 9th at 10 a.m. from the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Limas officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Pallbearers include Ricky Montez, Richard Flores, James Rodriguez, Vincent M. Huerta, Andres Huerta and Conrad Huerta. Survivors include his daughter, Katherine Barron of Wharton, son, Ricky Montez of Wharton, sister, Mary Garza of Le Mesa, brothers, Daniel Montez of Raymondville, Jimmy Montez of Raymondville and Joe Montez of Hereford, grandchildren, Amanda Barron, Carlos Rodriguez, Ricky Montez, Ophelia Montes and Esmeralda Montes and great grandchildren, Carlos Barron and Leia Flores.
