Laurence Harriman, Jr., age 83, of Wharton, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2015 at his residence surrounded by his loving family following a lengthy illness. He was born on December 22, 1931 in Lawrence, MA to the late Laurence Harriman, Sr. and Hilda Rice Harriman. Laurence attended school in Massachusetts before serving in the United States Army Honorably for 17 years. On February 21, 1964 he married Peggy West in Belton, TX. Laurence spent the early years of his marriage working coast to coast as a long-haul truck driver. They moved to the Pierce area in 1976 when “Yankee” took a job as a mechanic at the Pierce Ranch Pumping Plant. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. His other hobbies included building hotrods, Bar-B-Que pits and tinkering around in his shop. Laurence loved spending quality time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, his son, Laurence Harriman, and sisters, Carolyn Seagle, Alixe King, and Marion Skehan, preceded him in death. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, April 30th at 2pm at the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Don Hurley officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton under the auspices of the Wharton American Legion. Serving, as pallbearers were Thomas Harriman, Joshua Fuentes, Sean Gibson, Laurence Konvicka, Blayne Allgayer and Phillip Kocurek. Honorary pallbearers were Johnie Rosniak, Alphonse Andrade and Ricky Scotka. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Peggy West Harriman of Wharton, daughters, Deborah Harriman of Wharton, Elizabeth Bear and husband, William of Boling and Jennifer Konvicka of El Campo, son, Richard Littlefield and wife, Lisa of Maine, sister, Gertrude “Marie” Morgan and husband, Jack of Florida, and brother, Daryl Harriman of Georgia. His grandchildren, Morgan Littlefield, Tiffany Fuentes, Catherine Gibson, Joshua Fuentes, Monica Tweedle, Thomas Harriman, Sean Gibson, Tabatha Zahler, Laurence Konvicka, Brittany Zbranek and Payton Zbranek and great grandchildren, Trinity Knight, Kamryn Tweedle, Laynie Harriman and Zoey Zahler also survive.
