Sue Speer Hall died on Saturday May 16, 2015 in Houston at Memorial Hermann Hospital at the Texas Medical Center. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 20 from 5-7 PM at Wharton Funeral Home. The funeral service will be on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 10 AM at Wharton Funeral Home. Sue was born on February 11, 1918, in Lovelady, Texas to Walter Burnett Speer and Omie Standley Speer. She attended Lovelady High School and graduated as Valedictorian in 1936. She went to Mary Hardin Baylor for one year before transferring to Sam Houston State Teachers College in Huntsville. There she met Joseph Henry Hall of Willis and they had a Christmas wedding on December 25, 1938. She graduated from college at Sam Houston State with her teacher’s certification in August 1939. After teaching 3rd grade and 7th grade English for 20 years, Sue retired in 1971. She was a member of the Abell Street Church of Christ, the Wharton Pilot Club, a Life Member of Sam Houston State University Alumni Association, a Paul Harris Fellow with Rotary International, and belonged to several bridge clubs. With her husband Joe, Sue was an active supporter of the Wharton County Youth Fair, Texas Farm Bureau, and Rotary International. Sue enjoyed traveling, dancing, fishing, playing bridge, and most of all, being with her family and friends. She is predeceased by her husband, Joseph Henry Hall; her sister, Audrey Adams Bacon; and her parents. She is survived by her four sons: Joseph Haley Hall and his wife Jeannie; David Speer Hall and his wife Dee; Luther Glenn Hall and his companion, Patsy Jones; and Walter Keith Hall. Also surviving are six grandchildren and five great grandchildren: Jo Claire Hall; Joseph Hunt Hall, wife Melanie and their sons John and James; David Erwin Hall, wife Donna, and children Tristian Hall, Casey Daniels and Cassie Daniels; Bruce Henry “Hank” Hall, and his fiancé Gayle Massey; Erin Elizabeth Hall and her fiancé Trace Adams; and Courtney Catherine Hall and her companion Ross Giesinger. She is also survived by her sister Audrey’s daughter and name sake and son-in-law, Carolyn Sue and Allen Alford and their four sons and families; as well as her Hall Family nieces and nephews and their families: Evonne Alford Sturm; Cherrill Jones Kipple; John Henry Hall; William Paxton Hall; and James Ingram. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to the Bandina Christian Youth Camp c/o Abell Street Church of Christ, 501 Abell St., Wharton, TX 77488, or to the charity of your choice. Pallbearers for Thursday's services are: Joseph Hunt Hall, David Erwin Hall, Bruce Henry Hall, John Henry Hall, William Paxton Hall, and James Ingram. Honorary Pallbearers are Allen Alford, Marshall Locke, Bubby Frazier and all members of the Wharton Pilot Club, Wharton Rotary Club, and Sue’s bridge clubs. Services are under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
