Floyd Cockrell

Floyd Vernon Cockrell Floyd Cockrell, age 93, of Wharton passed away Tuesday May 19, 2015, at a local hospital. He was born on March 4, 1922 in Drumright, Oklahoma to the late Alexander and Bessie Jane Ware Cockrell. Floyd was raised in Oklahoma and attended school there. He served our country honorably in the United States Navy. On June 25, 1951 he married Peggy Moreland. She preceded him in death on December 21, 2009. Floyd worked as a pipeline welder for many years. He enjoyed working on cars, fabricating things with his welder and fishing. He was Christian by faith. In addition to his parents and and wife, 12 siblings also preceded him in death. Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 22, 2015 at 11 am at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton with his son, Mike Cockrell officiating. Floyd is survived by his children, Connie Sims of College Station, Mike V. Cockrell and wife, Elizabeth of Needville, Steve Cockrell and wife, Kathy of Alvin and Jeffrey Cockrell of Wharton, grandchildren, Matthew Cockrell, Angela Cockrell and Eileah Sims, and great grandchild, Logan Cockrell as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral services are under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Home. Condolences may be left at whartonfuneralhome.com.
