Lydia G. Matusek, age 92, of Wharton died Monday, May 25, 2015, in Wharton, TX. She was born on April 23, 1923, also in Wharton, TX, a daughter of Anton Louis and Mary Kubena Matusek. Lydia was a life long resident of Wharton. She graduated from High School prior to attending St. Joseph’s in Houston for her nursing education. She worked for many years at Caney Valley Hospital, prior to its replacement by Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center. She was a member of Catholic Daughters, and was active with SPJST for over 50 years. She was extremely proud of her Czech heritage, visiting the Czech Republic several times. Visitation will be held Friday, May 29, 2015 at St. John’s in Hungerford from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m., with a Rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hungerford with Fr. Charles Dwomoh officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Survivors include her sister Viola Dworaczyk of Pearland, brother Bennie and wife Barbara Matusek of Deer Park, and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be her nieces and nephews.
