Mr. Joe H. Urbanovsky, age 92, died Thursday, June 11, 2015, at his home in Wharton, TX. He was born May 29, 1923, in Wharton, TX, a son of Emil and Josephine Sykora Urbanovsky. Mr. Urbanovsky was a life long resident of Wharton. He graduated from Wharton High School, class of 1941. He then went to Sam Houston State University earning his Bachelor’s in Science degree. He earned his Masters in Education from the University of Houston. He also served our country honorably in the Army Air Force during World War II, earning a Distinguished Flying Cross and other honors. He was married to Cassie Ann Early on May 3, 1952, also in Wharton. He is probably best remembered for his time working for Wharton ISD and Pierce schools in positions such as Band Director, Choir Director and Principal. He was also a member of the Retired Teacher’s Association, Rotary Club, 449th and the Bomb Squad Association. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 14th at Wharton Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church on Monday, June 15, at 2:00 p.m. with Father Daniel Danso officiating. Burial will follow at Wharton City Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by American Legion Post 4474. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Cassie Early Urbanovsky; daughter Ann Carolyn Clement of Wichita Falls; son Joe Urbanovsky Jr. and his wife Marty Lee, of Austin; grandchildren Corin Christopher Clement, Colton Leonard Urbanovsky and Carrie Lee Urbanovsky; honorary grandchildren Debbie Murray, Jenny Payne and Cathy Schneider. Pallbearers will be Douglas Dusek, Allen Ray Moers, Jeffrey Blair, Dr. Keith Dowell, Timmy Barker and Frank Cochran. Honorary pallbearers include Dr. Robert Johnston, Lane Johnston, Lynn Redfern, Tim Duyka, Ed Lechler, Willie Prazak, Jack Thornton, Robert Zahraonik, Gene Bahnsen, Coleman Locke, Bobby Kleas, Charles Bucek, Bob Riley and Dr. Richard Boehm D.D.S. The family wishes to thank the caregivers, especially Maxine Fisher, for their compassionate care. Funeral services are under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Home.
