Lorraine Novosad Kucera, age 88, of Wharton died Tuesday, July 14, 2015, in Sugar Land, TX. She was born on October 13, 1926, in Yoakum, TX, a daughter of Frank and Antonia Sulak Novosad. She married the late Richard Joe Kucera on May 26, 1945, in Raymondville, TX. They were married over 53 years before his passing in 1998. Mrs. Kucera graduated from Wharton High School in 1944, was a longtime resident of Wharton County, and a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. She enjoyed cooking, shopping, going on country drives, and watching sports events. Lorraine worked as a teaching assistant for Wharton ISD for 20 years before her retirement in 1984. She will also be remembered for her work as the first receptionist of Hearthstone Assisted Living. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son, Rick Kucera. Visitation will be held Saturday July 18, 2015, from 2-4, with the Funeral Service at 4:00, at Wharton Funeral Home. Survivors include her daughters Kay Howarth of Rosenberg and Krys Bulding and husband Tony, of Hutto; sons Ronald Kucera of Needville, and Randy and his friend Terry Stedman, of Eagle Lake; sisters Kathleen McCaleb of Houston, Vivian Bennett of Lake Jackson, Lillian Carolan and her husband Jim of Wharton, and Jeanette Hobbs of Sugar Land; 11 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, and other relatives.
