Helen Mae Krenek Janik, age 88, of Wharton, passed away Friday, August 21, 2015, in Richmond. She was born on August 18, 1927, in Hungerford, TX, the daughter of the late Paul Krenek Sr. and his wife Albina Baca Krenek. Helen was born and raised in Wharton County. She graduated from Wharton High School in 1944, before attending Draughans Business College in Houston. She made her living as a secretary for Outlar and Blair Clinic, ASC Office, the Wharton County Tax Assessor, and Gulf Coast Medical Center. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, domino club and many faith ministries. She also loved dancing and listening to Polka music. Helen cherished her time with her children, grandchildren and family. Visitation was held on Sunday August 23, from 4–7 with a Rosary Service at 6:00 p.m., at Wharton Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass was Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Bob Knippenberg and Father Tim Bucek officiating. She was laid to rest in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Hungerford, TX. Serving, as pallbearers were her grandsons. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, first husband James R. Evans Sr., and brothers Albert Krenek, Paul Krenek Jr., Frank Krenek and Daniel Krenek. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Frank Janik Sr.; daughters Peggy Evans Janicek of Bellville, TX and Debbie Janik Peake and her husband Stephen of Waukesha, WI; sons James Evans of Wharton, TX and Frank Janik and his wife Megan of Stamford, CT; sister Betty Mueller; brothers Robert Krenek and Tom Krenek; grandchildren John Janicek, Jared Janicek, Jacob Janicek, Colin Peake, Derek Peake, Christine Foley, Russell Evans, Lauren Janik, Carolyn Janik, Katherine Janik, Rachel Janik and Madelyn Janik; and 6 great-grandchildren. The family would like to extend special thanks to Rebecca Montoya for her loving care. The family request memorials be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, 2011 Briar Lane, Wharton, Texas 77488 or the charity of your choice.
