Doris Lee "Dotty" Lechler

Mrs. Doris Lee “Dotty” Lechler, age 84, of Wharton died Saturday, August 22, 2015, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 13, 1931 in Pleasanton, Texas, a daughter of the late Otis Vernon and Tressa Blanch Shelton Guffey. Dotty was a longtime resident of Wharton. She married Edward C Lechler on August 6, 1950 at the First Baptist Church in Wharton. She worked as a secretary for Wharton schools for many years. Dotty enjoyed traveling, camping and fishing. The family logged many miles following their children, and grandchildren in their athletic events. In addition to her parents, her 6 siblings preceded her in death. Following cremation, memorial services were held on Tuesday, August 25 at 2 pm at the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with Mr. Tommy Guffey officiating. Survivors include her husband of over 65 years, Ed Lechler of Wharton, sons, Dale Lechler and wife, Pamela of Hampshire Fannett, and Jamie Lechler and wife, Barbara of Brenham, daughter, Jana Ryder and husband, Morris of West Columbia, grandchildren, Shane and wife, Erin, Derek and wife, Alexa, Madlynn, Ben and wife, Kristina, Blake and wife, Jenna Chad and wife, Genna and Lindsey, great grandchildren, Bailey, Emerson, Jagger, Jett, Julia, Kaylynn, Blayne, Reese, and Luke. Her brother, Donald Guffey and wife, Adele and sister-in-law, Margaret Guffey, along with many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services are under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Home.
