Joel Ramirez, Jr. Joel Ramirez, Jr., age 53, of Wharton passed away Friday September 18, 2015, at a Wharton nursing center. He was born on June 20, 1962 in Wharton to parents, Rev. Joel Ramirez, Sr and Anita Jaquez Ramirez. Joel was raised in Wharton and in Arizona, graduating from Cactus High School in 1980. He later obtained his Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree from Andersonville Theological Seminary. Joel worked as a substitute teacher, and in the healthcare field working with insurance. His real passion was at church, where he served as Music Minister for many years. Joel led the music services for every Sunday while his father was the preacher at Primera Iglesia Bautista. Visitation was held on Sunday evening, September 20, with a prayer service held at 7pm with Dr. Roland Lopez officiating. Funeral services were held on Monday, September 21, 2015 at 10 am at Primera Iglesia Bautista with Rev. Joel Ramirez, Sr. officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Serving as pallbearers were Jason Mendoza, Joshua Mendoza, Micah Mendoza, Charles Acosta, Preston Acosta and Joseph Mendoza and honorary pallbearers Daniel Ramirez and Addyson Jenson Mendoza. Joel is survived by his parents, Joel and Anita Ramirez, brother, Daniel Ramirez, sisters, Lisa Ramirez Mendoza and husband, Johnny, and Karen Ramirez Mendoza, all of Wharton. nieces and nephews, Jason, Joshua, Kami and Micah Mendoza and great nephew, Addyson Jensen Mendoza.
