Bessie Bernadette Novosad, age 90 of Wharton passed away Monday morning, November 23, 2015 at a Victoria facility following a chronic illness. She was born on July 28, 1925 in Flatonia, Texas, daughter of the late Frank Tupa and Anna Novak Tupa. Bessie was a raised in the Flatonia area and attended schools there. She married Lad Novosad on June 28, 1947 in Flatonia and later moved to Wharton. Bessie worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone until 1954 and then as a sales receptionist at Montgomery Wards. Bessie enjoyed sewing, needlepoint and yard work. She especially loved her roses. She played dominoes as member of the “42 Club” and collected bells and Hallmark ornaments. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Frank and John Tupa and sisters, Mary Tupa, Frances Tupa, Annie Svatek, Rose Svatek, Carrie Zamykal, Stella Smolik and Lillie Weyand. Visitation will be held on Friday evening, November 27, 2015 starting at 6 p.m. at Wharton Funeral Home with a rosary to be recited at 7 pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 28th, at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev. Bob Knippenberg officiating. Burial to follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Survivors include her daughters, Debra Swenson and husband Greg of Victoria, Pam Morgan and husband Mike of Sweeney; sister, Agnes Carle of San Antonio; and brother, Adolph Tupa of Conroe; grandchildren Heather Kroos and husband Scott of Victoria, Casey Swenson of Victoria, Shannon Allison and husband Cliff of Richmond, Matt Jeffries and wife Jenna of Melissa, TX; great grandchildren; Abigail Kroos and Aiden Allison. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Family Catholic Church Building Fund, Wharton, Texas 77488. Funeral services are under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Home.
