On December 5, 2015 at 12:16am, Gary Lynn Smith, 63, or as friends referred to him Tweet or Smitty, received his angel’s wings. Gary was born in Wharton, Texas on October 22, 1952 to the late Fred Maynard “Boots” Smith and Neva Faye Teat Smith. Gary grew up in the Newgulf area and graduated from Boling High School in 1971. Following high school he attended Southwest Texas State University. He was employed at Centerpoint Energy as a Master Technician for 42 years. Gary met his best friend and the love of his life Dale Joan Hobbs when he was 15. They were high school sweethearts and were married on June 24, 1972 at the Presbyterian Church in Wharton, Tx. Gary and Dale moved to West Columbia, Tx in 1978 and there they raised their 2 loving daughters Kimberly Renee and Kristy Kay. Gary was always supportive in the girl’s activities… softball, Brazoria County Fair, cheerleading, and drill team. He was loved by his daughters and all of their friends. Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, golfing and riding his Harley. He was very active in the Los Carnales-La Familia Motorcycle Club. He enjoyed making memories with his daughters, son in-laws, and grandsons, but most of all Gary loved spending time and going on adventures with Dale. Gary is survived by his wife of 43 years, Dale and beloved Yorkie, Teensy; daughters, Kimberly Renee Rolf and husband Steven of Newgulf, and Kristy Kay Dieringer and husband Cullen of Katy; grandsons Kaylor and Korbyn Rolf and Colton and Connor Dieringer; brothers James Smith and wife, Mary and Robert Smith and numerous nieces and nephews. Honorary Pallbearers are the members of Los Carnales-La Familia Motorcycle Club, son in laws Cullen Dieringer, Steven Rolf, grandsons Kaylor Rolf, Colton Dieringer, Korbyn Rolf, and Connor Dieringer. Memorial services will be held, Thursday, December 10, 2015 at 6:30 pm at the Wharton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Debbie Cenko presiding. Visitation will begin at 5:30 pm.
