William "Bill" Andrew Edwards

William “Bill” Andrew Edwards, 93, of Wharton, TX, died January 13, 2016, in Wharton, Texas. Bill was born on April 19, 1922, in Gore, Oklahoma, to George and Bertha Brown Edwards. He Attended Boling High School prior to enlisting in the Marine Corps in October of 1942. He proudly served as a Quartermaster through World War II. He married the love of his life, Shirley Smith on May 16, 1952. They shared 45 years together until her death in 1998. He made a career with Texas Gulf repairing and inspecting railroad cars until his retirement in 1982. He was a former member of the Boling VFW and Assistant Scout Master to the Iago Boy Scout Troup. He also loved to play golf and to teach others to play the game. He also loved his Lord, and was a member of Abell St. Church of Christ. Bill is survived by daughters: Ginger Lloyd and Rebecca Harlow; sons: Robin Lee Edwards & Susan and Clifford Edwards; sisters: Betty Coffman, Florine Clanton, Ann Olson, Mary Putman and Georgia Rogers; and five grandchildren. Visitation will be held Friday, January 15, 2016 from 5-7 p.m. at Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Abell St. Church of Christ with Luke Guthrie officiating. Serving as Pallbearers are Robert Hewlett, Scott Clanton, Brent Clanton, Marshall Rogers, Michael Olson and Jack Blackburn. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
