Adelaido "Lalo" Martinez

Adelaido S. “Lalo” Martinez, of Boling, died Saturday, February 6, 2016, in Richmond, Texas. Lalo was born on November 8, 1923, to Juan and Herminia Sandoval Martinez, in Roma, Texas. Lalo attended Boling High School. When the country joined World War II, he answered the call and enlisted in the Army. He served honorably as a Surgical Technician. After his return from war, he married Inez DeLeon on August 24, 1947, in New Gulf. They shared 66 years together, until her death in 2013. He also went to work in the Traffic Department of Texas Gulf Sulfur where he stayed until his retirement in 1982. Lalo will always be remembered as a loyal Astros fan. His other great passion was his family. Spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids was one of his greatest joys in life. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife. He was survived by his sons Adelaido J. Martinez & his wife Mary of Pharr and Edward Martinez & his wife Yvonne of New Gulf; sisters Rosalinda Mireles, Delia Luera and Olga Blanco; grandchildren Adelaido J. Martinez Jr., Joey Martinez, Gabriel Martinez, Gabriella Martinez, Kelly Elliott, Edward J. Martinez and Emily Mangum; great-grandchildren Tom Elliott II, Zeni Elliott, Isaac Martinez, Phoenix James Martinez, Saydie Martinez, Eddiee Martinez, Jacob Martinez, Joshua Martinez, Aubrey Martinez and Presley Partridge. Visitation will be on Monday, February 8, from 5-9 p.m. at Wharton Funeral Home with a Rosary at 7p.m. Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, February 9, at 10 a.m. at Mount Carmel Catholic Church with Father Antonio Perez officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. Military Honors will be performed by American Legion Post 87. Serving as Pallbearers will be A.J. Martinez, Joey Martinez, Gabriel Martinez, Edward Martinez, Isaac Martinez and Tommy Elliott. Honorary Pallbearers are Jacob Martinez, Joshua Martinez, Tom Elliott, Phoenix Martinez and Presley Partridge. Funeral services under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
