Elvira Mata, 92, of Corrigan, Texas, died Wednesday, February 24, 2016, in Corrigan. Elvira was born on November 14, 1923, to Paul and Isabelle Casas Mata, in Lane City, Texas. She moved to Wheeling, Illinois, in the mid 1950s where she lived and worked in a factory for 50 years until her return to Texas. She loved to dance to Mexican music and is remembered through the many pillowcases and table linens she embroidered over the years. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Trinidad Munoz, Theodora Recio, Antonia Ferrell, Minnie Cruz and Maria Mata; and brothers Isabel Mata, Pedro Mata, Amado Mata and Emilio Mata. She was survived by her sisters Paula Munoz, Eva Martin, Cruz Guerrero and Frances Lara & husband Juan; brothers Frank Mata & wife Paula, Robert Mata & wife Sarah and Manuel Mata & wife Bonnie; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Wharton Funeral Home from 5-9 on Monday, February 29, with a Rosary at 7. Funeral Mass will be at Mount Carmel Catholic Church on Tuesday, March 1, at 10 with Father Antonio Perez officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
