Joe Valle Cerrillo, 89, of Wharton, Texas, died Saturday, February 27, 2016, in Sugar Land, Texas. Joe was born on October 26, 1926, to Epifiano and Paula Valle Cerrillo, in Wharton, Texas. Joe was a life long resident of Wharton. He attended Wharton High School before entering the Army in 1945 and served as a Guard Patrolman. He married Esther Cruz on July 2, 1949. He made a career at Texas Gulf Sulfur working for 34 years as a Carpenter before his retirement in 1982. He loved his Houston Astros baseball, playing dominoes and his family. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, and son Tony Cerrillo. He was survived by his wife Esther Cruz Cerrillo; daughter Lydia Cerrillo of Sugar Land; son Roy Joseph Cerrillo and his wife Marilyn of Richmond; sister Dominga Cerrillo; brother Jesus Cerrillo; grandchildren Amanda Brown and her husband Erik and Roy Anthony Cerrillo; and great-grandchildren Clayton and Ansley Brown. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 1, from 5-9 with a Rosary at 7, at Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, March 2, at 10 a.m. at Mt. Carmel Catholic Church with Father Antonio Perez officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park with military honors provided by American Legion Post 47. Pallbearers will be Kenny Gonzales, Ross Gonzales, John Alaniz, Roy Cerrillo, Erik Brown and Hugo Martinez. Funeral services under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
