Paul Castro, age 95, of Wharton, died February 27, 2016 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on October 8, 1920, in Houston, Texas, the son of the late Pedro and Serapia H. Castro. Paul attended public schools in Houston, Texas. Paul was enrolled in the Civilian Conservation Corps from July 1941 to March 1942. He then spent three years in the U.S. Navy during WWII, serving as a medic in the South Pacific. He married his late beloved wife on October 3, 1942, in Galveston, Texas. During his career, Paul worked for the U.S. Postal Service and the Postal Credit Union, retiring after 30+ years. In his retirement, Paul was an avid volunteer for several agencies in Wharton, as well as a translator for Spanish-speaking folks. He enjoyed reading the newspapers, keeping up with local and national news, and watching Houston Astros baseball and Houston Texans football. He loved telling stories to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include his daughter, Patty Brooke and husband, John of San Antonio; grandchildren, Tony Goddard and wife Brenda and Logan Goddard; great-grandchildren Casen and Landree Goddard, as well as a brother, sisters, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5-9 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m., at Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be on Friday at 1 p.m. at Wharton Funeral Home with Deacon David Valdez officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
