Roy Womack, 73, of Katy and formerly of Wharton, passed away on March , 2016, at his residence. Roy was born on September 16, 1942 in Freeport. Texas to the late W.J. and Mary Kocurek Womack. Roy was raised in Wharton and graduated from Wharton High School in 1961. He later attended Wharton County Junior College. Roy served our country honorably in the United States Army, being stationed in Germany. Upon earning his Honorable Discharge, Roy began his career in fire safety equipment installation. He traveled the world doing this work for the next 45 years of his life, until his retirement in 2009. He was a kind, funny, genuine man and a loving, supportive father, grandfather, brother and son. He never had a bad word to say about anyone, and he could spin one heck of a yarn. Roy is survived by his daughters, Angela Gonzalez and husband, Jorge of Houston and Dana Hurowitz and husband, Scott of Katy, sister, Marilyn Womack of San Marcos, brothers, Terrell Womack and wife, Joyce of Louise, Larry Womack and wife Patsy of Wharton and Johnny Womack and wife, Karen of Katy, grandchildren, Benjamin Gonzalez, Aurelia Gonzalez, Samuel Hurowitz and Hannah Hurowitz. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2016 from 6 till 9 pm, at Wharton Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held on Friday, March 11, at 11 am at the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with Deacon David Valdez officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery under the auspices of the Wharton American Legion Post 87 and VFW post 4474. Funeral services under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
