Oscar Rivera, 57, of Corpus Christi, Texas, died in Corpus Christi, Texas. Oscar was born on May 5, 1958 to Trinidad and Alicia Rodriguez Rivera in New Gulf, Texas He graduated from Wharton High School in 1976 before earing his Associates degree in Drafting from Wharton County Junior College. He played professional baseball in Mexico before starting his career in the insurance business. He was a life long athlete, continuing to play baseball, basketball, running in marathons until the time of his death. Oscar enjoyed spending time outdoors and with nature, enjoying God’s creation. Oscar is survived by his son Oscar Ivan Rivera of San Diego, CA; sister Mary A Martinez of Wharton; brothers Trino Rivera of Port Arthur, Norbert Rivera & wife Virginia of Rosenberg and Randy Rivera & wife Kimberly Ann of Littleton, CO; and nine nieces and nephews. A Rosary will be said on Friday, March 11, at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, March 12, at 10:00 a.m. also at the Church with Father Antonio Perez officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. Pallbearers are: Norbert Rivera, Randy Rivera, Triny Rivera, Ryan Quintana, Ernest Godoy and Hector Lopez Funeral services under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
