Chester B. Rasmussen, Jr., 69, of Wharton, Texas, died Friday, March 11, 2016, in Wharton. Chester was born on September 17, 1946, to Chester, Sr. and Mary Margarette Rasmussen, in El Campo, Texas. Chester graduated from El Campo High School in 1966, before enlisting in the Navy. He served nearly four years, including three tours in Vietnam. Upon his return, he married the love of his life, Carol Mendell, on April 11, 1970, at the Methodist Church in Garwood. He went on to enjoy a career of 30 plus years as a Sales Representative with 3L, Incorporated, a career he enjoyed until the very end. His great joy was Saturdays with Carol at the gun range. He also loved to sit on the back porch drinking his coffee and enjoying the birds and other wildlife that would gather. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Carol; son Christopher Rasmussen and his wife Pamela of Cypress, Texas; daughter Courtney Thonsgaard and her husband Chad of Wharton; and grandchildren Brooke & Elise Rasmussen and Makayla & Luke Thonsgaard. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-9 p.m., at Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Robert McInturff officiating. Burial will follow at Lehrer Memorial Cemetery in Colorado County. Serving as Pallbearers will be J.L. Abraham, Wes Cook, Micael Lanier, Terrell Lanier, Vance Smith and Bill Stolle.
