Elvina “Beanie” Maretka, 85, of Wharton, died March 31, 2016, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Elvina was born on November 1, 1930, to Frank and Annie Kveton Janak, in Damon, Texas. Elvina graduated from Eagle Lake High School, Class of 1949. She married the love of her life, Daniel Maretka on April 1, 1960. They enjoyed nearly 56 years of marriage and had two daughters. She worked for Southwestern Bell as a Telephone Operator and Supply Attendant. She continued to work for them for 35 years, until her retirement in 1984. After her retirement, she volunteered at Wharton Manor, which became Wharton Nursing & Rehab. She also enjoyed baking for family and friends. She loved traveling to California and Idaho to visit her daughters and grandsons. She and her husband enjoyed taking day trips as well as taking their travel trailer camping. Elvina was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Sophie Janak and Elsie Janak Drake. She was survived by her husband, Daniel; daughters: Danealia Maretka of West Hollywood, CA and Clara Maretka of Boise, ID; grandchildren: Ryan Tipton and Christopher Bonner also of Boise. The family wishes to thank Houston Hospice and their volunteers for the ongoing care of their wife and mother. In addition, the family wishes to thank all of her care givers she had over the last 9 years. Visitation will be held, Friday, April 15, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. at Wharton Funeral Home. A funeral service will be Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Wharton Funeral Home Chapel. Burial to follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Christopher Bonner, Eugene Maretka, Daryl Maretka, Johnny Hobbins, Butch Meyer and George Riley. Funeral services under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
