Sybil Griswold Parker, 99, of Wharton, died April 18, 2016, in Richmond. Sybil was born on September 11, 1916, to Howard L and Teretha McFather Griswold, in Weldon, TX. She married Earl Parker on November 22, 1941, and was his devoted wife for 48 years, until his passing on May 25, 1990. She was a homemaker for many years. Later she worked as a cook at several restaurants and schools until her retirement in 1987. Sybil Parker was a member of Caney Creek Church. She attended services regularly until her health prohibited her from going. She lived at Elmcroft Assisted living and attended church service there. She loved music and attended the Polka Dance on Tuesdays, and loved to play Bingo until her vision hampered her ability to play. Because of failing health she entered Wharton Nursing facility where she lived until her death. She lived in her own home until age 95 and could no longer live alone. Gardening was one of her passions and she loved to share her vegetables with neighbors and family. There were always lots of flowers in her yard that she took such pride in. Sybil was preceded in death by her husband; brothers Cornel Griswold, Jim Griswold and Charles Griswold; sisters-in-law Medie Griswold, Minnie Griswold and Claudine Griswold; parents Howard and Teretha Griswold; grand-sons-in-law Albert Pope and Bill Mullikin. Sybil was survived by her daughters Margie Peikert and husband Gordon Peikert, Susie Toellner and husband Dale Toellner; step-sons Earl Corley Parker and Edward Ray Edward Parker and wife Jo Parker; grandchildren Rod Kevin Peikert and wife Debra Peikert, Denise Lanae Sedlock and husband James Sedlock, Joshua Kayle Peikert and wife Morgan Peikert, Allen Dale Peikert and wife Kim Peikert, Chris Peikert, Elizabeth Jean Pope, Brandon Parker and wife Aimee Parker, Regina Money and husband David Money and Kim Mullikins; 15 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-9 p.m. at Wharton Funeral Home. Services will be on Friday at 10:00 a.m., also at Wharton Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Mickey Reynolds. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Eagle Lake. Serving as Pallbearers will be Kevin Peikert, Joshua Peikert, Allen Dale Peikert, Chris Peikert, Cody Stansbery and James Sedlock.
