Myrl Wilks McLean

Myrl Wilks McLean, 99, of Friendswood, TX, died peacefully at home on April 27, 2016. Myrl was born on November 20, 1916, to Willam Wesley Wilks and Erie Catherine Taylor Wilks, in the Chalk Mountain area of Somervell County, Texas. Welcoming Myrl into Heaven is her beloved husband, Blake; her daughter, Sheron McLean Habermacher; and a grandson, Steven Corner; her five brothers; Karl, Vane, Dale, Voy, and Kirby Wilks and sister, Reta Wilks Ross. She graduated from Lampasas High School, class of 1936. She worked as a nurse at Rollins Brook Hospital where she met patient Blake C. McLean. One thing led to another, and they were married on August 7, 1937. After marriage, her focus was her family, church, and home. The family moved to Wharton, in 1943, then to Houston in 1958. She and Blake were active members of the Wharton Church of Christ, Stafford Church of Christ, and West University Church of Christ. She was devoted to her Lord, and her Church family. She loved to travel, loved nature, and people. Their home was always open to all; family, friends, and ones in need. She is survived by her daughters Barbara and her husband, Rod Corner and Joy and husband Dick Carter; son-in-law Ray Habermacher; grandchildren: Brad Corner, Sherrie Turner, Kelly Liston, Ray Blake Habermacher, Gayla Cullers, Holly McVey and Corey Wistinghausen; great-grandchildren Lindsay Koole, Matthew Cartwright, Alecia Corner, Ryan Corner, Cole Liston, Luke Habermacher, Jackson Habermacher, Megan Cullers, Kristen Cullers, Erin Cullers, Payton McVey, Ryan McVey, Tyler McVey, Carter Wistinghausen and Madyn Wistinghausen; and great-great-grandchildren Austyn Garza and Clayton Sherrouse.” Visitation will be on Sunday, May 1, at 1:00 p.m. followed by funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at Wharton Funeral Home. Burial follows at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family would like to thank Anne Proctor, Kristy Carrizales, and Alicia Wong for their compassionate care.
