Rosa Ann Mata, 61, of Wharton, died Tuesday, May 3, 2016, in Wharton. Rosa was born on August 22, 1954, to Gil V. and Susie Cerrillo Mata, in Wharton. Rosa graduated from Wharton High School, class of 1972, before attending Wharton County Junior College. She worked for many years as a Bookkeeper for HEB before retiring in 1995. Following her retirement from HEB, she worked as a vendor for Lowes. Rosa loved life. She spent countless evenings traveling the state in order to indulge in the Tejano dancing she loved. She also loved trips to Louisiana, and old Black and White Westerns on TV. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Mary Alice Alameda and Sandra Mata; and brother David Mata. Rosa was survived by her loving companion of 20 years, Robert Sosa; son Mark Mata & wife Vicki; sisters Janie Valdez & Roy Rodriguez; Sonya Mata-Garcia & Desi; brothers Gil C. Mata and Rudolph Mata & Millie; grandchildren Hannah Mata & Tanner Mata; and numerous loving nieces, nephews, and other family members. Visitation will be on Friday from 5-9 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m. at Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Carmel Catholic Church with Father Bob Knippenberg officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. Serving as Pallbearers will be Scott Rieger, Shane Burns, Carl Cox, Rocky Wisnieski, Rick Senf, Richard Valdez, Ronnie Dunn and Ronnie Valdez. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Cerrillo, Jerry Valdez, Frank Valdez and Scott Stewart. Funeral services under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
