June Vernelle Cook, 86, of Wharton, died May 4, 2016, in Wharton, TX. June was born on January 16, 1930, to Vernon and Oramae Lampert Melton, in Wharton. She was a life long resident of Wharton. June graduated from Wharton High School in 1948, She married the love of her life, Johnnie Bennett Cook, on April 23, 1960. Following her marriage, she returned to school and attended Victoria Junior College Nursing School, earning her RN. She worked for the Richmond State School until her retirement. She always had a passion for reading. She also loved Wheel of Fortune. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 44 years, son James Lynn Cook and brother Marshall Lampert Melton. She is survived by sons Joseph Dale Cook and his wife Ruth Ann of Carrollton, TX and Jeffery Glenn Cook and his wife Veronica of Katy; three grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. The Funeral Service will be held Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at Wharton Funeral Home Rev Tony Wishert officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
