Joseph “Jody” Paul Svatek, 72, former resident of Bonus and currently Wharton, TX, passed away on May 30, 2016 following a lengthy illness. Joseph was born on May 10, 1944 in Wharton, Texas to the late John Svatek and Angeline Hajek Svatek. Jody was raised in the Wharton area and attended school in Crescent. Jody married Bernadette Malik on November 5, 1967 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton. He was employed by Wharton ISD for 22 years as an electrician. Jody enjoyed Polka dancing, camping in Breckenridge, Lake Texana and Matagorda and playing with the neighbor’s grandkids Mason & Chloe Meitzen. Jody loved talking to people with his electrifying smile. He was a happy and a very hard working loyal man. In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by his sister Henrietta Barta, brothers; Anton Svatek, Jimmie Svatek, Benjamin Svatek and Laddie Svatek; sister in law, Adeline Svatek and Brothers in law, Johnny Barta and Lawrence Labay, Sr., niece Denise Rek and nephew Gerald Wayne Toman Jody is survived by his wife of 48 years, Bernadette Malik Svatek of Wharton; sisters Agnes Labay, Janice Toman and Bernadette Toman; brothers Johnnie Svatek and wife Dolores, George Svatek and wife Frances, Billy Svatek and wife Josephine “Jo”, David Svatek and Tommy Svatek and wife Lauren. Special friends are Mason and Chloe Meitzen. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 3, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. and a Holy Rosary to be recited at 10:30 am at St. Johns Catholic Church in Hungerford followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Charles Dwomoh officiating. Burial to follow at St. Johns Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were John Hobbins, B. J. Toman, Troy Svatek Jeffrey Hickl Lawrence Labay, Jr., Kenny Svatek Chris Tomme and Michael Toman. Funeral services under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
