Doris S. McKey, 78, of Wharton, Texas, passed away June 4, 2016, at S.P.J.S.T. Senior Living Facility in Needville, TX. Doris was born on April 16, 1938 in Jackson, Alabama, a daughter of the late Garrett and Nancy Josephine Dolbear Stanley. Doris was raised in the Jackson area and graduated from Jackson High School. She married Dalbert Ray McKey in 1961 in Wagerville, AL, he preceded her in death January 28, 2006. They moved to Wharton County in 1962. Doris enjoyed being a police officers’ wife for over 40 years. She also worked as an office manager for Dr. Perches & Dr. Spears, later, as secretary for Wharton Funeral Home. Doris loved fishing and did so every chance she could, fresh water, salt water, and would fish all day long, weather the fish were biting or not. Doris also loved deer hunting, bingo, and gambling in Las Vegas. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Sarah Stanley, twin sister Dorothy Stanley and brother, Melvin Stanley. Doris is survived by her son, William Ray McKey and wife, Lisa Bollom McKey of Rosenberg, grandchildren, Kristen Whitehead and husband, Duane Whitehead of Rosenberg, Drew McKey and future wife Amy Munoz of Sugar Land, along with sisters, Maxine Williams and Sophie McMullen and husband Richard, both of Jackson AL. Following cremation, memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 11, at 11:00 AM at St Paul Lutheran Church in Wharton with Rev. Laura Olsen officiating.
