Larry Capps, age 65, of Bay City, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2016 in Bay City. He was born on October 14, 1950 in Houston, Texas, he is the son of the late Thurman and Hazel Smith Capps. In addition to his parents, Larry is preceded in death by his youngest son, Christopher Capps in 2005. Survivors include his son, James “Jimmy” Capps, Jr. of Boling, granddaughter, Tinsley Capps, along with his sisters, Judy Hardy and husband, Ken of Huntsville, and Laura Welborn and husband, Mike of Aransas Pass, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Larry joined the United States Army during the Viet Nam era, where he was a member of the 101st Airborne Division. He earned many medals, which included National Defense Service, Good Conduct, two Overseas Bars, Army Commendation, Vietnam Service Expert M-14 and Expert M-16, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. After earning his Honorable Discharge in 1973, he worked for numerous nursing homes in the area as a maintenance director. He was a carpenter by trade. Larry later was the owner of Capps Home Repair in Bay City, where he resided for most of his life. Larry enjoyed working around the house, carpentry, and crafts. He most enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter, Tinsley, and was especially proud of his son, Jimmy, with his accomplishments at work, in the fire department, and most of all raising his daughter. Larry was a continued supporter of the Boling Fire Department to help the community along with many other organizations. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and simply being outdoors working in his yard. Honorary Pallbearers are Earl “Buster” Eidlebach, Cliff Gaunt, Darren Hines, Gilbert Ramirez, and Jesse Rodriguez. Following cremation, memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 10 am at the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Garcia officiating.
