Helen Sherrill

Nell Helen Waters Sherrill, 94, of Wharton, died July 2, 2016, in Wharton, Texas. Helen was born on December 21, 1921, to Edgar and Sadie Astin Waters, in Lee County, Texas Helen was raised in Crescent and graduated from Crescent High School class of 1939. She was married to Verlie Sherrill for almost 75 years, until his death in 2013. She worked for the Post Office as a Rural Mail Carrier for 28 years. In her spare time, she and Verlie loved to go fishing, and she loved quilting with her sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter Retha O’Quinn Sherrill; sisters Mamie Hurst, Gertrude Boyd, Ollie Barker and Louise Adams; and brothers Nat Waters and Ed Ray Waters. She is survived by her son Verlie Sherrill, Jr.; grandchildren Jeannie Suhr, David Wayne Suhr Jr., Sherri Scheffer, Todd Sherrill, Kelly Burke and Allison Noriega; great-grandchildren Trinity Suhr, Brook Donetti, Keith Scheffer, Kevin Scheffer, Shane Suhr, Taylor Burke, Ian Suhr and Meyer Sherrill; and three great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5-7 p.m. at Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the Wharton Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Debbie Cenko officiating. Burial will follow at Wharton City Cemetery.
