James Henry Herring, III, a loving and devoted son, husband, father, and grandfather, died peacefully at the age of 86 on Friday, July 8, 2016. He was born at home in Wharton, Texas on May 21, 1930, to James H. Herring, Jr. and Adele Adams Herring. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Fred Adams Herring. He was a pharmacist in the Houston area for over 35 years, having owned at one time Avalon Drug Company as well as Tanglewood Pharmacy. He was a long time member of TPA and a life member of the Texas Exes Assn. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elaine Endicott Herring, his daughter, Kathryn Herring Schwartz and husband, Edward; his sons, Gregory James Herring and wife, Patricia, and Robert Endicott Herring and wife, Evangeline. His eight grandchildren, William James, Emily Elizabeth, and Benjamin Adams Herring; Peter Herring, Ethan Benjamin, and Jonathan James Schwartz; Catalina Elaine and David Enrique Herring also survive their “Pop”. Jim was a member of St. Luke’s UMC where a memorial service for him will be held in the chapel on Thursday, July 14, 2016, at 11AM. He will be buried in City Cemetery in Wharton, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to his church (www.stlukesmethodist.org), to find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease (www.usagainstalzheimers.org), or to a charity of your choice.
