Virginia Valli Veatch Mitchell, 89, passed away in Victoria, TX. She was born November 15, 1926, in Dalhart, TX to Floyd F. and Mary Bigler Veatch. She lived in Fritch, TX, attended school there and graduated from Phillips High School in 1943. She then attended West Texas State University, graduating in 1949. She married Alton A. Mitchell in Borger, TX, in 1948 and was blessed with two children, Mary Virginia Evans of Wharton, and Joe Robb Mitchell of Victoria. Mrs. Mitchell taught school in Borger, TX for five years before moving to Wharton in 1951. She taught school in Wharton for 31 years. After retirement she enjoyed being a Hospital Volunteer and traveling with her husband. Mrs. Mitchell was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wharton, serving as Elder, Sunday School teacher, Women’s Circle, and as a faithful member. Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 63 years, Alton A. Mitchell; sisters Edna Barrow, Billie Gracey and Frances Middleton. She is survived by daughter Mary Virginia Evans and husband Arthur of Wharton; son Joe Robb Mitchell and wife Jodi of Victoria; sister Doris Crownover of Knox City, TX; brother Floyd F. Veatch, Jr. and wife Marsha of Colorado Springs, CO; Grandchildren Kaye McKlaine, Joshua Driscoll and wife Sheri, Zachary Mitchell and wife Janae and Kristen Hargrave and husband Chris; great-grandchildren Hannah, Berlyn and Daxton Driscoll, Cannon and Brylee Hargrave and Caroline Mitchell. Following cremation, memorial services will be held Friday, July 29, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Wharton with Rev. Debbie Cenko officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Elders of First Presbyterian Church. In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to First Presbyterian Church, 1602 John Knox St., Wharton, TX 77488.
