Genevieve B. Maerz, 96, of Wharton, died Sunday, July 31, 2016, in East Bernard. Genevieve was born on February 14, 1920, to Willie and Eleanor Wendel Maerz, in Mentz, Texas. Genevieve graduated from El Campo High School, class of 1936, before attending business classes at Wharton County Junior College. She went on to work in the accounting department of Rugeley-Blasingame Clinic for 41 years before her retirement in 1986. She was extremely dedicated to her Roman Catholic faith. She served in the Holy Family Altar Society and Fellowship Committee and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Betty Ann Krenek and Ellen Vickery; brother Wilbur Maerz; niece Mary Willeen Vickery; and nephew Kenneth Krenek. She is survived by her sister Clarice Ottis of Bay City; nieces Karen Maerz, Yvonne Evans, Mary Ottis, Melinda Bujnoch, Sharon Harton, Janiece Pustejovsky, Nancy Wasek and Cindy Vincek; nephew Michael Maerz; and 20 great-nieces and great-nephews. All services will be at Holy Family Catholic Church on Wednesday, August 1. Visitation will begin at 9:30, a Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30. The Rite of Committal and burial will follow at Holly Cross Memorial Park in El Campo, TX. Serving as Pallbearers will be Michael Maerz, Sam Evans, Jacob Harton, Jim Pustejovsky, Carl Seale, and Drew Vincek.
