Monica Bily Melnar, 85, of Hungerford, died Friday, August 26, 2016, in Sugar Land, TX. Monica was born on January 26, 1931, to Frank and Rosie Bily III. in Praha, TX. In her early years, Monica attended the one room school house in Praha, TX. She later received LVN training through Wagner Hospital in Shiner, TX, living in the dormitory during her training. She went on to work at various hospitals in the area for 46 years, until her retirement in 2002. She married Joseph Melnar on February 8, 1956 in Praha, TX. She remained his loving wife for 54 years, until his death in October of 2010. She was always very devout to her Roman Catholic roots. She always dreamed of seeing the Holy Land, Rome and the Vatican. She also loved watching her Astros and Texans, and was devoted to Channel 2 news. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters Lucy Lednicky and Sister Rita Rose Bily; and brother Monsignor Edward Bily. She was survived by her daughter Cynthia Wallace of Richmond, TX; sons Michael Melnar and wife Liz of Cody, WY, and John Melnar and wife Lucia of Round Rock, TX; brother Monsignor John Bily; grandchildren Paige Krutilek, Adam Bowhay, Marshall Melnar, Mathew Melnar, Mitchell Melnar, Christopher Russell, Joshua Melnar, and Adrian Jimenez; great-grandchildren Joshua, Reid, Amber and Xavier. Visitation will be held Sunday, August 28, from 5-7 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hungerford. On Monday, August 29, also at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hungerford, a Rosary will be recited at 9:30, and a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00. Burial will follow at 2:00 at St Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Praha, TX. Serving as Pallbearers will be Marshall Melnar, Mitchell Melnar, Joshua Melnar, Adrian Jimenez, Jessie Lednicky and James Lednicky. Funeral services under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
