Donald A. Thompson, 85, of Wharton, died September 4, 2016 in Houston. Donald was born on January 18, 1931, to Joseph and Geraldine Rawley Thompson in Houston, TX. Donald spent his early years in Houston, and moved to Corpus Christie during grade school. He graduated from high school in Corpus Christi, class of 1948, before enlisting in the Air Force. Upon his discharge, he continued to work as a civilian Aircraft Dispatcher for the Air Force until his retirement in 1986. He married Lucille Perkins in 1953, and remained her faithful husband for 63 years. They made their home in many areas, including Franklin for 22 years, Pasadena, Houston, and only recently Wharton. Donald always enjoyed NASCAR racing. Later in life he discovered the joy of country life. While he grew up a city kid, he loved riding on his tractor the years they lived in the country. Donald was preceded in death by his parents. He was survived by his wife Lucille Perkins Thompson of Wharton; daughter Kim Person and her husband Ed of Wharton; granddaughter Jennifer Wright of Kingwood; and great-granddaughter Karlee Wright who is attending Stephen F. Austin University. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. also at Wharton Funeral Home with Pastor Laura Olson officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. Serving as Pallbearers will be Greg Raley, Russell Storemski, Mitch Adams, Clayton Magoon, Jonathan Storemski, Jason Adams, James Raley and Michael Perkins.
