Donald Ross “Donnie” Carroll Donald Ross “Donnie” Carroll, 74, of Wharton passed away Friday, October 28, 2016, in Wharton, TX, following a courageous battle with cancer. Donnie was born on July 30, 1942, to Gene and Dorothy Vondereau Carroll in Wharton, TX. Donnie lived his whole life in Wharton. He attended both Wharton High School and Wharton County Junior College. Donnie married Evelyn Rabius on January 11,1960. He was in the retail business for nearly 45 years, working first selling guns at Carroll’s Gun Shop and in 1978 opened Carroll’s Jewelry with his wife, Evelyn until his retirement in 2005. He loved spending time outdoors and with his grandsons, family and friends. He treasured his hunting days in West Texas with various family and friends, but fishing was his greatest hobby from childhood. Fishing with the grandsons was his greatest enjoyment. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Evelyn Rabius Carroll, his parents, and his brother Kenny McIntyre. He was survived by daughter Sandy Hawkins and her husband Wylie; brothers Taylor Carroll and his wife Enola and Rusty McIntyre brother-in- law Raymond Rabius and his wife Jo Marie brother-in-law David Rabius and his wife Bonnie and grandsons Cody Hawkins and his fiancé Kristin Charboneau and Matt Hawkins and his girlfriend, Jenna Hagan. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-9 p.m. at Wharton Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. also at Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. John Meador officiating. Serving as Pallbearers will be Cody Hawkins, Matt Hawkins, Taylor Green, Korey Lane, James Kostka, Cal Buck, Butch Rabius and Russell Rabius. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park.
