Mary A. Patina, 87, of Rock Island, Texas died Monday, November 7, 2016 at her daughter’s home in Rock Island, Texas. Mary was born on October 17, 1929 in San Antonio, Texas. She was the daughter of Victor Aleman and Celia Macumva Aleman. She married the late Joe Garcia Patina and was his loving wife until his death in 1991. She was a dedicated mother to their eight children. She will always be remembered for her chicken and dumplings, tamales, and other wonderful dishes and baked goods. She was preceded by her husband; sons Guadalupe Patina and Fermin Patina; and sister Anita Hernadez. She was survived by her daughters Emma Vasquez of Los Fresnos, TX, Janie Lucio of Rock Island, Josephine Ruiz of Rock Island, Mary Solis and husband Wistano of Rock Island, Dolores Estrada and husband Alford Sr. of Sheridan and Brenda Lee Vital and husband Bernado of Rock Island; sisters Beatrice Alvardo and Victoria Salcido; 46 grandchildren; 109 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren Visitation will Thursday be from 5 – 9 p.m. at Wharton Funeral Home with a Vigil at 7. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:30 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church with Father Bob Knippenberg officiating. Serving as Pallbearers will be Felipe Melendez, David Estrada, Misael Rocha, Augustine Lopez, Raymond Leal Jr, Lupe Patina, Johnny Melendez, and Bobby Patina. The Rite of Committal and burial will follow at Wharton City Cemetery. Funeral services under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home. Condolences may be left at www. whartonfuneralhome.com.
