Teresa Salazar Cantu, 57, of Wharton, passed away on December 5, 2016, in Houston after an extended illness. Teresa was born on December 12, 1958, in New Gulf, to Juan and Isabel Salazar. Teresa was raised in Bay City and Van Vleck before moving to Wharton upon her marriage to Juan Cantu. She was a dedicated homemaker for her husband and children. The greatest joy in her life was spending time with all eight of her grandchildren. She would play every silly game they wanted to play and loved talking and laughing with them. Her favorite pastimes were watching Dancing with the Stars, listening to Tejano music, and talking on the phone with her sister Lupe. Teresa was preceded in death by her parents Juan and Isabel Salazar; sister Mary Lou Ramirez; and brothers Louis Salazar and Robert Salazar. She is survived by her husband Juan Cantu; daughters Erica Castellano & husband Gene, Consuelo Cantu and Lisa Marie Cantu; sons Juan Cantu Jr. & Michelle Rieger and Roberto Cantu & Terrie Ramirez; and grandchildren Ryan Castellano, John Castellano, Mia Castellano, Emily Cantu, Emma Cantu, Angel Rene Granado, Kayla Cantu and Evan Cantu. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5 – 9 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7:00. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Carmel Catholic Church with Father Bob Knippenberg officiating. Serving as Pallbearers are Michael Martinez, Joe Salazar, Jason Salazar, Juan Cantu Jr., Ryan Castellano and John Castellano. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers are Evan Cantu, Mark Ramirez, Brian Ramirez, Chris Ramirez, and Ernest Ramirez Jr. A private burial will follow at a later date.
