Eluterio “Pops” Garza, 84, of Hungerford, Texas, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 19, 2016, following a short illness at his residence. He was born May 26, 1932 in Runge, Texas to the late David and Maria Valdez Garza. Pops was raised in Pierce and attended school there. He later married Esther Rodriguez in 1951. She preceded him in death on December 30, 1977. He worked as a press operator for National Pole for many years. Pops enjoyed dancing, mowing yards and being around his friends and family. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Garza and sons, Alex, John and Daniel Garza. Pops is survived by his children, Mary Helen Rodriguez and husband, Samuel, Sr. of Hungerford, Mary Ester Martinez and husband, Johnny of Hungerford, Mary Virginia Longoria and husband, Joe of Egypt, Rachel Burkhardt and husband, Robert of Wharton, Terry Garza, Jr of Houston, Damus Garza of Hungerford, Mike Garza of Hungerford, Alfredo Garza of San Antonio, and Davis Daniel Garza of Hungerford, siblings, Lydia Vasquez and husband, Raymond of Hungerford, Lupe Quintanilla and husband, Ascension, Jr. of Wharton, Janie Gonzales and husband, Daniel of Wharton, Luciano Garza and wife, Joy of LA, David Garza Jr. of Wharton and Leo Garza and wife, Darlene of Wharton, 28 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews and friends. Visitation will begin on Friday, December 23 at 8 am at Wharton Funeral Home with Funeral Services set to begin at 10 am at Wharton Funeral Home with burial to follow at St John Catholic Cemetery in Hungerford.
