David Joseph Melancon, 70, of Houston, passed away on January 25, 2017, at his residence surrounded by his family following a lengthy illness. David was born on May 1, 1946 in Franklin, LA to the late Martin and Irene DeRouen Melancon. David was raised in the Hamshire- Fannett area and attended school there. He married Patsy Ann Robertson on March 7, 1970. She preceded him in death on April 3, 2016 after recently celebrating 46 years of marriage. David worked as a metal fabricator for many years. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, tinkering with small engines, playing his harmonica, and watching cowboy movies, adult coloring books, and staying up to date on current events by watching the news on TV several times a day. His favorite time was spent with his grandchildren, Joe and Jessica. David and Patsy devoted a large portion of their life to helping at Heritage Baptist Church in Missouri City, serving at numerous functions held by the church. David is survived by his daughters, Rae Ane Buford and husband, Bill of Wallis and Jody Catherine Brown and husband, Scott of Sealy, and grandchildren, Joe and Jessica Buford of Wallis. Following cremation, memorial services will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 11 am at Heritage Baptist Church, 2223 FM 1092 Missouri City, Texas 77459.
