Frank "Doc" John Ziober

Frank “Doc” John Ziober passed away peacefully on February 5, 2017, surrounded by his loved ones. He led an honorable life noteworthy for his patriotic service to his country as a Vietnam Veteran and true devotion to his family and friends. Frank was a lifelong Wharton resident: He was born in Wharton Texas, on June 24, 1949 to Joseph and Stasia Ziober, attended Holy Family Catholic School and graduated from Wharton High School in 1967. Frank married Judy Frankum in 1967 and they went on to have three beautiful daughters together: Shelly, Kimberly and Ashleye. He served our country on the front lines as Airman First Class in the United States Air Force from 1969 to 1973, during the Vietnam War; during his service, he received an Air Force Commendation Medal for outstanding initiative of leadership and effectiveness of combat operations. Frank was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed doing anything that involved hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed spending time with friends playing dominos and never wanted to miss a game! Frank was truly loved and respected by anyone that had the honor of meeting him. He is survived by his wife of nearly fifty years, Judy Ziober; daughters, Shelly Niemeier, Kimberly Kagan and husband, David and Ashleye Fortanelli and husband, Jesus; three grandsons, Blake Niemeier, Nicholas Niemeier and Jase Fortanelli; sisters, Lucy Jurek and husband Jimmy, and Betty Jean Shoppa and husband Lloyd; brothers Alvin Ziober and wife, Suzanne and Marion and wife, Donna; sister-in-law Dorothy Ziober, brother-in-law, Don King and numerous nieces and nephews. Frank was predeceased by his parents, sisters, Wanda King, Bertha Lorenson and husband, Don, Pauline Meek and husband, Donald and brothers R.J. (Joe) Ziober and Johnnie and wife, Janelle Ziober. A viewing will be held at Wharton Funeral Home, 515 E. Boling Hwy, Wharton, TX 77488- Wednesday, February 8 from 5-7 p.m., with a Funeral services on Thursday, February 9 at 10 a.m. at Wharton Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers are James Myers, David Mejarado, David Kagan, Jesus Fortanelli, Greg Ziober and Richard Moore. Honorary Pallbearers are Shorty Rachunek, David Brewer, Mike Glasser, Frank Felceman, Ray Kacer and Todd Svatek and all his domino buddies. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Veteran’s foundation of your choice to honor all the heroes in the armed forces serving our country.
