Paul B. Olivo, 71, of Wharton, passed away March 3, 2017, in a Houston hospital. Paul was born on September 3, 1945, in Wharton, to the late Theodore Olivo and Margaret Belasquez Olivo. Paul was raised in Wharton and graduated from Wharton High School, class of 1965. He played football in High School. He then met the love of his life, Noemi Perales and they were married on July 27, 1968. He worked as a Custodian and Bus driver for Wharton ISD for 26 years, often driving the teams to sporting events. Paul was a man who loved his family and his community. He believed in attending church every Sunday and served as an Usher for many years. He enjoyed taking his children fishing and teaching his grandchildren to play dominoes and Uno. He played on a men’s baseball and softball league for many years. He was a Little league umpire enduring many taunts from parents, but persevered due to his love of the game and children. He enjoyed watching football, baseball and soccer especially “La Liga Mexicana”, the 3 Stooges and old western movies. He would listen to Jose Alfredo Jimenez and “Los Tigres”. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Alfred Olivo, Daniel Olivo and Herman Olivo. He always complemented his wife on her cooking and how pretty she always looked. Paul is survived by his wife, Noemi of 48 years, his daughter Elsa Garza and husband, Jesse of San Antonio; sons, Paul Olivo Jr. and wife, Gertrudis of Wharton, and Norbert Olivo of Wharton; sister, Cruz Olivo of Wharton; brothers, Jesse Olivo, John Olivo and Joe Olivo; grandchildren, Maria Katherine Olivo, Paul Olivo III, Emma Garza and Bianca Garza. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2017 starting at 5 p.m. with a holy Rosary recited at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 6, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church with Father George Kunnath officiating. A Rite of Committal and burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Paul B. Olivo Jr., Hector Mario Hernandez, Jr., Robert “Bobby” Hernandez, Adrian Hernandez, Jesse Garza III and Carlos Jr. Velasquez. Funeral services under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
