Philip Riley, Jr., 83, of Glen Flora, passed away May 1, 2017, in a Houston hospital following a brief illness. Philip was born on November 5, 1933 in Egypt, Texas a son of the late Philip Riley, Sr. and Effie Thompson Riley. Philip was raised in the Crescent area and graduated from Crescent High School. He later attended and graduated from Sam Houston State University, where he obtained his Bachelors and Masters degrees. After serving in the United States Army, Philip married Ms. Rachel Head on August 23, 1967. Philip was a teacher in the Memorial ISD as an Industrial Arts instructor. He retired in 1990 and lived in the Glen Flora area since. He enjoyed fishing, and making things work. He was a creative person that had a mechanical mind and enjoyed taking things apart, finding the problem and fixing the, usually better than new. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Rachel Riley of Glen Flora, daughter, Charlotte Pasket and husband, Russell of Anderson, son, Keith Riley of Altus, Oklahoma, and grandchildren, Daniel Riley, Amber Pasket, Gregory Pasket and Philip Pasket. Funeral services will be celebrated Friday, May 5 at 10 am at the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home in Wharton with Rev Charles Ruehl. Burial will be in Wharton Cemetery in Wharton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to SPOT PO Box 548, Wharton, Texas 77488. Funeral services under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
