Yolanda Rodriguez Montelongo

Yolanda Rodriquez Montelongo, 92, of Wharton, passed away June 22, 2017, in Wharton. Yolanda was born on November 5, 1924, in Cerralvo, Mexico, to the late Rafael and Clotilde Uribe Rodriguez. She moved to the Wharton area in 1927, at the age of 3. Yolanda attended Boling High School prior to her marriage to Domingo Perez Montelongo on January 29, 1942. She went on to work as a Sales Lady at Perry Brothers for 25 years, until her retirement in May of 1989. She loved to watch sports on television, especially baseball, basketball and football. She was a member of Senior Friends, loved to travel and enjoyed playing cards and fishing. She was a faithful member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Domingo Perez Montelongo on July 15, 1994; son Dario Montelongo; her parents Rafael and Clotilde Uribe Rodriguez; brothers Oscar Rodriguez and Roberto Rodriguez and sisters, Olga Gomez, Enriqueta Mercado, and LiLia Villarreal. She is survived by daughters Lucilla “Lucy” Hernandez of Wharton, Diana Saenz of Austin and Melissa Vela of Wyoming; sons Domingo Ricardo Montelongo of Huntsville, AL, Juan Manuel Montelongo of Clute and daughter in law, Cristina Montelongo of San Antonio; sisters, Minerva Davila of Bryan, Ninfa Luera and husband David of Wharton, Rosalinda Baylor of Houston, Dahlia Fernandez and husband Carl of Baton Rouge, LA; brother Rafael Rolando Rodriguez and wife Doris of Houston; grandchildren, Dario Montelongo, Jr., Michelle Gardner, Gabriella Mills, Vanessa Lawson, Lisa Connor, Richard Montelongo, Michael Anthony Hernandez, Aileen McGarrahan, Stephanie Franz, John Robert Montelongo, Juan Manuel Montelongo, Christina Kirkpatrick, Anthony David Vela, Michael Saenz and Andrew Sanez; 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Visitation will begin at 5pm Sunday, June 25 at Wharton Funeral Home with a parish rosary being recited at 6 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday June 26 at 10 am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Wharton with Fr. Gabriel Espinosa celebrating. The Rite of Committal and burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Serving as pallbearers will be Michael A. Hernandez, Dario Montelongo, Jr., Richard Montelongo, John Robert Montelongo, Juan Manuel Montelongo, Anthony Vela, Christian Villanueva and Anthony Hernandez. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be her sons-in-law Eliseo Hernandez, Michael Saenz and David Vela. Funeral services under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
