George Hinze, 83, of Wharton, Texas, passed away on Tuesday surrounded by his loving family at home. He was born on April 11, 1934 in Wharton to the late Walter Carl and Lydia Schattel Hinze. George was born and raised in Wharton and graduated from Wharton High School. George served in the United States Army. After receiving his Honorable Discharge, George married Karen Keton on June 20, 1959. She preceded him in death on September 10, 2001. George was the owner and operator of Georges Restaurant in Wharton for many years, retiring in 1990. He also worked for the Texas Department of Corrections as a guard for many years. He enjoyed exercise, dancing, the Dallas Cowboys, tubing the river in New Braunfels, fishing and turkey hunting. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Matt Hinze, his brother W.C Hinze and brother in law, Bob Kasper. George is survived by his son, Greg Hinze and fiancée Yvette Dunn of Wharton, grandchildren, Amanda Hinze, Matthew Hinze, Wyatt Hinze and Merle Hinze, Great Grandchildren, Hunter Hurst and Lane Hinze, sister Marlene Kasper of Austin, and sister in law, Rosemary Hinze of Wharton. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 23, 2017 at Wharton Funeral Home from 5 till 8 pm. The Rosary will be recited on Monday at 9:30, followed by the Funeral Mass at 10 am at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton with Father Tim Bucek officiating. Following cremation, private graveside services will be held at a later date at Wharton Cemetery.
