Allen Raymond Rachunek Allen Rachunek, 68, of Wharton, TX, passed away on Sunday morning, July 30, 2017 in a Houston hospital following a sudden illness. Allen was born on November 24, 1948, to the late Frank and Dorothy Mae Krenek Rachunek, in Wharton, TX. Allen was raised in the Wharton area and graduated from Wharton High School, class of 1967. Allen served our country in the National Guard, earning his Honorable Discharge on June 22, 1974. He married Michele Ann Malandrakis on April 18, 1970 in El Campo. AIlen worked in pipeline maintenance for many years. He also enjoyed helping on the farm whenever he could. Allen was a devout member of St John the Baptist Catholic Church in Hungerford for many years, and a member of the Wharton Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, being in the peace and quiet of the great outdoors, working in the fields and gardens, being at deer camp and crabbing and oystering. Some of his favorite times were spent playing with his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother in law Michael Malandrakis, and sister in law, Anna Long and his in laws (Michele’s parents) Carl Gene and Emily Morrison. Allen is survived by his wife, Michele Ann Rachunek of Wharton, daughter, Melissa Zielonka and husband, Chris of Fowlerton and son, John Allen Rachunek and wife, Jackie of El Campo, grandchildren, Andrew, Jordan, Kayla, Tristan, Myranda, Blake, Hunter, Chloe and Camdan, sisters in law, Theresa Krenek and husband, Joe, Eileen Gonzales and husband, Lupe, Carolyn Malandrakis, brother in law, Carl Morrison and wife, Kathy and Vernon Long and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening, August 2 starting at 5 p.m. at the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with Rosary beginning at 7 pm A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at 10 am at St John the Baptist Catholic Church in Hungerford with Fr. Charles Dwomoh officiating. The Rite of Committal and Burial will take place in the church cemetery in Hungerford. Serving as pallbearers will be William Gavranovic, Lee Owens, Dan Carey, Joey Carey, Michael Carey, Shawn Malandrakis, James Long, DeWayne Long and Carl Morrison, Jr., Honorary pallbearers include his grandchildren, and friends, Willie Gavranovic, Joe Krenek and Ascension Quintanilla, Jr. Funeral services under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
