Ludmilla "Lillie" Elizabeth Talafuse

October 21, 1921 — August 5, 2017

Ludmila (Lillie) Elizabeth Talafuse, born October 11, 1921, was the third child of Jaromir Lepik and Alzbeta Orsak Lepik. She was born in Lavaca County near the town of Moravia. She and her three siblings, Marie, Jerome and Emily grew up in the Boones Bend area near Hungerford, Texas. On June 4, 1946 Lillie married Josef Peter Talafuse. God blessed their union with three children, Diana Josephine, Lillian Cathrine and Joseph Peter, Jr. In time, six grandchildren and one great- grandson were added to the family. Joe and Lillie first made their home in East Bernard, where they built a home that still stands on Brandes street. In 1954, they moved to Victoria where they later started their own radio and television business. Lillie mothered her three children, managed her household, ran the family business, cared for her sister-in-law, was den mother to a rowdy bunch of cub scouts, fed "hobos" who hopped off the trains passing by their house, and occasionally leaped tall buildings in a single bound! In 1997, Lillie and Joe moved back to East Bernard where Joe died in 2004. In 2013 Lillie moved to Rosenberg to live with her son and his family, then to Cambridge Square Assisted Living in 2015. Lillie was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, and her daughter Diana. She is survived by her daughter Cathy Mitchell and husband Billy, her son Joe, Jr. and wife Jana, her grandchildren Chris Watkins, Jennifer Grayson and husband Ian, Amy Casdorph and fiancé Sammy Campese, Amanda Talafuse, Joe Talafuse, III, Reba Talafuse, and great-grandson Cassius Coleman. She was an amazing example of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Her life was a life well-lived, and Christ her Savior is pleased. After 95 years and 10 months, He has welcomed her home. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, followed by a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard with Father Don Ruppert officiating.
