Elliott Floyd Sr., 79, of Wharton, passed away October 14, 2017, at his daughters’ residence in San Antonio, Texas. Elliott was born on March 12, 1938 in Iago, Texas, a son of the late Charlie and Lillie Mae Jackson Floyd. He is survived by his children William Floyd, Recie Floyd Miller (married to COL. Reginald Miller Sr.), Angela Floyd, Elliott Floyd Jr. (married to Jennifer), and Jade Floyd (married to Charles Small), and his former wife of 43 years Dr. Gloria Jo Floyd. He is also survived by his grandchildren Landon Floyd, Wade Floyd and Reginald Miller Jr, Jahyna Miller, and great-grandson, Jayson Miller. His siblings George C. Floyd, Utah Floyd, Mozelle Hicks, Recie Gibson, Charles L. Floyd and Henry Floyd also survive him. He is preceded by his parents Charlie and Lillie Mae Floyd, his grandson Benjamin Elliott Miller, and his brothers Joe Louis Floyd and Carl Wayne Floyd. He graduated from Boling Vocational High School in 1956 and went directly in to the United States Air Force where he honorably served for 12 years. He attended Palo Alto College and received a degree in Airport Facility Management following his time in the military. He also graduated from St. Phillips College where studied Aircraft Aviation and later went on to become an instructor where he taught Heating and Air Conditioning for a number of years. After receiving his pilot license, he flew planes for the DEA (undercover photography and drug enforcement). He spent eight years with the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s department where he rose to the rank of Captain. Prior to his time in law enforcement, he owned Floyd & Sons Heating and Air Conditioning for 20 years. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, October 21, 2017, at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home in Wharton, Texas with Minister Jacob Sarloos and Elder Gerald Donaldson from the Abell Street Church of Christ in Wharton, Texas officiating.
